Name

John McGowan

Job Role

More Than Football Lead

Length of time you have worked at MitC

2 Years

What are your main responsibilities

Planning, organising, and coordinating all of Morton in the Community’s More than Football projects, ensuring they are delivered effectively, run smoothly, and achieve the intended outcomes for the local community.

What does a typical week look like for you

The role can vary each week but is generally based at Cappielow, with day-to-day tasks including planning and developing both current and future projects as well as working in partnership with a variety of organisations. Alongside this, the role also involves keeping an understanding of profit and loss, building networks within the community and beyond, and managing sessional staff to make sure programmes are delivered effectively and to a high standard.

What are the best bits of working at MitC

Having the platform to support people across the community, while also supporting staff, makes the role really meaningful. It creates a positive and vibrant environment where everyone feels valued, encouraged, and able to make a difference.

What has been your biggest success in your role so far

I really enjoyed being part of the Pathways programme at Notre Dame High School, but more generally having the chance to create opportunities for people that give them a platform to learn, grow, and develop new skills. It’s also about helping individuals build confidence, realise their potential, and work towards healthier and more positive lifestyles.

What are you looking forward to over the next 12 months

Developing new programmes, continuing to grow and improve the ones we already have, and always looking at how we can keep the community thriving.
