Morton in the Community is delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant of £156,878 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to deliver Mon eh Ton – an exciting and innovative project celebrating the rich heritage of Morton Football Club and its 150-year legacy within the local community.
This two-year project, supported by players of the National Lottery, will explore and showcase the social and cultural impact of Morton FC through an engaging mix of digital innovation, community participation, and heritage education. The project will run until June 2027.
One of the key features of Mon eh Ton will be the use of virtual and augmented reality technology to bring the club's history to life for elderly residents in care homes, helping to foster a sense of nostalgia, connection, and community pride. The project will also include:
- - Heritage training sessions led by professional researchers, teaching participants how to explore and interpret historical club archives
- - The recruitment of volunteers to uncover, document and share stories from the club’s past
- - The development of a dedicated digital platform to showcase the project's findings
- - A variety of intergenerational activities designed to bring young and older generations together to share in the club’s heritage
- - The hiring of a Part-Time Heritage Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator to lead and support project delivery
- - The creation of a bespoke ‘heritage ball’ as a lasting, symbolic representation of Morton FC’s legacy
Brian McLaughlin, Chief Executive.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Mon eh Ton is about more than just football – it’s about identity, memory, and connection. Morton Football Club has played a major role in the life of Inverclyde and its people, and this project gives us a chance to honour that legacy in exciting, meaningful ways.”
The project is part of a wider celebration marking the 150th anniversary of Morton FC, recognising the club’s deep roots in the community and its ongoing impact across generations.
Thanks to National Lottery players, who raise millions of pounds for good causes every week, Mon eh Ton will preserve and promote Morton’s story for future generations.
